BE (Character Development)
Target 1st Timothy 3 and Titus
1 characteristics of mature shepherds for character development and a plan of action for growth
Identify qualities of Jesus in which you would most like to grow with a plan of action
Promote the shaping, sanctifying work of the Spirit via spiritual disciplines including: Bible study, prayer, fasting, meditation, worship, sacrifice, secrecy, confession, family devotional times, intentional journaling, marriage enrichment, evangelism, encouragement, etc.
Pursue secular prudence via mundane disciplines including: time management, financial budgeting, priority and task management, health, fitness, retirement planning
DO (Skill Developmnt)
Dealing with difficult ministry decisions, including: church disciplines, disfellowship, teen disciplinary actions, marriage/divorce & remarriage, military service options, dating dynamics, leadership transitions
Discerning God’s will from His Word for career, family, and relationship issues
Discerning Fear from Faith in decision making processes, plus godly vs worldly sorrow in repentance counseling
Raising up reliable men and women who in turn can teach others
Train Bible Talk Leaders for small group leadership
Preparing impactful Bible discussions
Rallying the group for the mission of Christ
Changing the culture of dysfunctional group
Inspiring a group for greater love, unity, service, purposefulness, and godliness
Teaching Christians to obey everything that Jesus taught
Guiding a seeker to saving faith in Jesus Christ
Understanding the biblical phenomenon of conversion and discerning where a seeker is on his or her path toward salvation
Knowing and growing a significant Scripture Bank to best deploy applicable Scriptures to sufficiently convict a seeker
Asking purposeful questions via guided discovery as you
help the seeker interpret, apply, and contemplate Scripture
Raising up and equipping new leaders via intentional training
Counseling marrieds, families, singles, campus, and teens to resolve conflict, expose sin, guide toward grace, and inspire toward Christian maturity
Developing sermons via expository preaching process models + Delivering sermons and lessons powerfully and clearly with presentation tools if needed
KNOW (or LEARN, Continuing Education)
Deeper understanding of doctrines (perhaps gleaned through topical studies, books, or discussions)
Thorough study of a book of the Bible via commentaries, word studies, and Bible dictionary
MTA courses
Identifying and completing other useful courses for continuing education
Delivering sermons and lessons powerfully and clearly with presentation tools if needed
Maintaining scriptural and intellectual integrity for topical lessons and character studies
Developing teaching programs with learning objectives and instructional modules
Accessing applicable research and editing its content for usefulness in congregational teaching
Contacting, interviewing, and learning from subject matter experts
10X (Proactive Responsibility)
Expansively and proactively provide solid stewardship over the responsibilities entrusted by God to your charge (based on Parable of Minas Lk 19)
Initiate biblical studies, devotional lessons, group activities and discipleship to boost faith (and/or outreach, devotion, godliness, holiness, commitment, love, service, friendships, purposefulness, joy, kingdomview, etc.) of the group
Setting and tracking goals for leading and lagging Key Fellowship Indicators (KFI) such as initiating Bible studies, participating in Bible studies, follow-up study completion rates, conversions, fellowship breaks, and leadership training program completion rates
